The humble beginnings of Harris Ceylon limited spans almost 40 years of change and growth to emerge as the leading and most respected manufacturer of all decorative paint brushes and accessories in Sri Lanka.
Harris brushes became synonymous within a short period of time in UK, and L. G. Harris Ltd. became a respected company of international repute. The Queen herself made L.G. Harris Ltd. her official supplier by giving the seal of consent to the company and this seal still portrays the quality and prestige the company stands for. The rapid growth saw the Bromsgrove based company spread itself and soon L. G. Harris Ltd. had established overseas factories in Ireland, South Africa and Kenya. Associated factories were also set up in, Turkey and Portugal shortly after and in a few years time Harris brushes came to be a house hold name the world over.
Recognizing quality goods of value, Ceylon began to import Harris brushes in 1935, and they soon became a market leader within the construction and decorative sectors, and through necessity a plant was created because of the vacuum in the production of brushes led to the setting up of the plant in Sri Lanka in 1969, and this household name "Harris" which was the creation of Leslie G. Harris in 1932 in the United Kingdom soon became a roaring success and still remains as a brand name that stands for quality and reliability.
The company presently holds more than 70% of the Sri Lankan brush market, and the numbers are still growing with the expansion of their existing product lines, which include household, decorative and artistry brush lines as well as accessories. The factory situated in Meegoda, houses more than 160 employees, some of them having served the company for over 25 years, portraying the commitment towards the company and its brand name. So stringent was the adherence to quality right from the inception that original machinery imported from the U. K. in 1969 is still in peak condition, nearly thirty years later! These machines coupled with modern upto date machinery helps keep up with the competition of both local and foreign markets.
The distribution channels of the company spans all around the country.
