When Mr. L G Harris, the founder of the firm of L.G. Harris & Co Ltd, asked me to come over to the Meegoda factory in April 1973, I had no idea what lay ahead of me. He asked me whether I would take over and run the Meegoda factory and I was taken aback... a decision I have never regretted. When I took charge in 1974 from W.E Mathew, I think we had 45 in the factory and 3 including myself in the office and 2 sales representatives. |

When I joined this company, there were only a handful of workers and a very few machines on the factory floor. There was very little production and types of brushes being manufactured. And now, we produce so many varieties of brushes and we have the backing of new machinery. The number of workers has more than doubled and so have the welfare activities. We are all one family here. |

I Started off as a Brush maker on the factory floor, and was one of the first six to work at the Harris factory, which at that time had very little facilities. The General Manager was Mr. Summer Field, and my supervisor was Ms. Pat Clark, and we all worked as one family, they even attended my wedding and visited me at the birth of my first child. After leaving the company for a few years, I re-joined and then Mr. Michael Dias was the Managing Director. Since then the company has seen many changes with the development of the factory floor and modern machinery and better facilities for the factory staff. |
