Our environmental responsibility extends beyond the reach of the Down to earth brand. We are aware of our responsibilities in relation to the environment, and are committed to continually strive towards sourcing and using environmentally compatible components and products. In order to achieve this we continually monitor our manufacturing techniques and waste stream management in order to reach the highest possible level of commitment to the environment.
The environmental benefits of Down to earth are:
Biodegradable handles and bristles
- The paintbrush and roller handles are manufactured from 65% cornstarch. In normal landfill conditions the handles will biodegrade over a significantly shorter period than Polypropylene; this leads to a reduction in landfill mass.
- Corn is a natural, renewable and sustainable raw material that addresses the amount of hazardous substances created or caused during the production process.
- The paintbrush head is manufactured from a mix of synthetic filaments and natural bristles, formulated to be 30% biodegradable.
Recycled packaging
- All of the packaging used in the range is produced from recycled or biodegradable materials.
- The packaging materials used come from suppliers who have complete environmental accreditation.
Eco-friendly print processes
- All printed material is produced using chemical free and waterless printing methods. Plates are no longer made; hence the chemical process involved in making the plates has been removed.
- Vegetable-based inks or soy inks are used instead of petroleum-based inks. These alternatives are both low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
- All waste material produced during the printing process, including any plastic waste such as shrink-wrap, is recycled.
